Import Bookmarks

Use Import when you want to bring existing bookmarks into Marqly. Import is available during onboarding and from the profile/sidebar menu.

Supported import sources

The import UI includes instructions for:

  • Chrome.
  • Safari.
  • Firefox.
  • Edge.
  • Raindrop.
  • CSV.

Marqly accepts HTML/HTM bookmark exports and CSV files in the app UI. The backend can also parse TXT-style bookmark exports when they match a supported structure.

Import during onboarding

  1. On the onboarding starter step, choose the import option.
  2. Pick your browser or source.
  3. Follow the export instructions shown in Marqly.
  4. Choose the exported file.
  5. Wait while Marqly uploads and processes the file.
  6. Continue onboarding when the import is complete or skip if you want to start manually.

Import from the app

  1. Open the profile/sidebar menu.
  2. Select Import.
  3. Select a source and choose your exported file.
  4. Keep the modal open or close it. Import continues in the background.
  5. Watch the import toast for progress.

If you stop an import, bookmarks already imported stay in your library.

Limits and errors

  • Maximum import size is designed for large browser exports, but files that are too large may be rejected.
  • Maximum bookmarks per import: 10,000.
  • Empty, corrupt, unsupported, or invalid files show an error.
  • If your import exceeds the allowed bookmark count, Marqly shows an import limit message.
tip

For the cleanest import, export directly from your browser immediately before importing. Old exported files often contain duplicates or folders you no longer use.

Import tags from another app

Switching from another bookmarking app or browser extension? If it lets you export your tags (usually as a JSON file), you can carry those tags over to Marqly.

  1. In the Import Bookmarks modal, expand the tag import section.
  2. Choose the tags file (JSON) you exported from your previous app.
  3. If your export came with a separate decoder or mapping file, add it as well.
  4. Select Import Tags.
tip

Tag exports differ from app to app, so some tags may not map across cleanly. If they don't, import your bookmarks as usual and re-tag in Marqly — auto-tagging and the AI Organizer make this fast.
